Magic of Sepia succus

We think cases with multiple pathological lesions are beyond our scope. But a homeopathic similimum can root out all the pathology of the physical body, by treating the inner illness of the patient(disease in vitality). This clinical case is presented from genuine Homeopathic Clinical Research Center, Madurai. This case reveals the efficacy of dynamic similimum. Let us start DARE to read.

Age        : 32 Yrs.

Sex        : Female

Occupation : House Wife

Present Complaints:

Complaints of severe back pain with milky leucorrhea, burning micturition since 3 months.

Pain in left mammary gland with heaviness, ameliorated by squeezing out the discharge. Pain in nape of the neck, left-sided.

Pain in the left iliac fossa, amelioration by pressure, complaints of dyspareunia with dryness of vagina.

Occipital headache with left-sided nasal obstruction. Heaviness of head aggravated by change of climate and dampness.

Formication in lower abdomen. Exhaustion after sexual act.

Constipation ++ dry, hard and difficult in evacuation.

Pain in both heels < dampness.

Bitter taste in mouth.

Past history:

Recurrent tendency to catch cold.

Family history:

Father diabetic, hypertensive, also a heart patient.

Personal history:

Occasional non-vegetarian. She got married at the age of 21 years. Has two children. I child – Full term normal delivery. II child – Lower segmental caesarian section.

Mental Generals:

She did love marriage against the opinion of her parents, now severe indifference with loved ones, with her husband and also with her children. Irritable+ desire to be alone, but fear of being alone. Sadness++. Weeping while narrating complaints. Aversion to coition because of dyspareunia.

Physical Generals:

Irregular intake of food. Want of appetite.

Thirst+

Sweat++ but does not feel better by sweat.

Stool-constipation++, dry hard stool and wetness in

anus after lower segmental cesarean section.

Indigestion+.

Urine-burning during urination, occasional involuntary

passage of urine while coughing and straining.

Menses-Scanty, 2/50 days cycle, want of more flow.

Sleeplessness++

Physical Examination:

Short, fair complexion, obese+, not anemic.

Weight – 61 kg

Pulse – 95/min.

Systemic Examination:

CVS   NAD

RS   NAD

She was advised to take ultrasound abdomen and pelvis.

Ultrasound shows

Intramural myoma in size 1.0 x 0.9 cm in anterior fundal region.

Bilateral tiny intrarenal calculi.

Bulky anteverted uterus with tiny intramural myoma.

Minimal free fluid is seen in pouch of Douglas.

Few cervical cysts are seen in both lips of cervix.

Bilateral large ovaries with multiple small surface follicles suggestive of polycystic ovaries.

I Prescription 12.06.08

After deep repertorial analysis, Lachesis and Sepia scored equal marks. After going through Materia Medica we arrived at Sepia succus as the similimum on the basis of totality of symptom.

Sepia succus 0/3 1 Dose added in 120 ml aqueous solution, 5 drops every day morning with 100 ml of plain water in empty stomach, each time after 10 succession for 15 days. She was strictly advised to take vegetarian diet, to avoid coffee, tea, milk products. She was also advised to stop medicine if she feels better.

II Prescription 28.06.08

Complaints reduced very well. Left side nose obstruction+. Pain in neck+. No burning Micturition. Pain in left breast, left iliac region reduced a lot.

Placebo for 15 days.

Cold+. Cough+. Acute coryza, Generals Normal.

Ultrasound shows

Normal sized anteverted uterus.

No uterine fibroids or free fluids in the pelvis.

Both ovaries are normal in size. No adnexal mass lesion.

Discussion:                                                                                                                          Sepia sucuss  (cuttle fish) the similimum for this particular case, prescribed based on totality of symptoms, especially for her indifference which restored the sick to HEALTH, and now she is living a new healthy life. A Case of Vocal Cord Cancer

A Case of vocal cord cancer yields to one remedy.

A 72-year-old male suffering from cough since two years presented to our clinic in Madurai on January 25, 2010. He also suffered from inability to vocalize since a year, nonproductive cough since two years, pain in the throat since one year.

History of presenting illness: Nonproductive cough < while lying down, > at night, severe burning in the throat since one year, unable to swallow since three months, dryness of mouth and bitter taste in the mouth. The patient’s caregivers emphasized that the patient had sleeplessness almost every night.

Mental generals: Restlessness, anxious, extreme worry about his illness.

Physical generals: He preferred a liquid diet due to his difficulty in swallowing solids. Thirst was increased.  Had bitter taste on the tongue. Desire for hot drinks. Dry skin with itching all over. Frequent urination. Sleeplessness was severe. Thermally, chilly patient.

Past history: A known case of diabetes and hypertension. The patient also suffered from hemorrhoids and was under allopathic medication for these conditions.

Family History: His father expired due to renal failure as a complication of his diabetic state. His mother died from Ca of cervix.

Personal history: The patient is a tobacco chewer (Ganesh pogaillai) and panparak. Nonsmoker, nonalcoholic.

Physical examination: On exam, he had difficulty protruding his tongue due to severe pain. Tongue was coated white. He was emaciated with severe prostration. The patient came to the clinic with the help of attendants as he was weak and tired. He had a dark complexion. The patient was anemic; not jaundiced.

Systemic examinations: All systems were normal on exam.

Investigations:  Hemoglobin – 12.8 mg%, blood sugar – 154 mg/dl, blood urea – 28 mg/dl, serum creatinine – 1.3 mg/dl, HBsAG – negative, HCV Ab – Nonreactive, bleeding time – 2 minutes 30 seconds, clotting time – 5 minutes 30 seconds, blood group – AB positive.

Biopsy done on December 9, 2009 showed well differentiated keratinized squamous cell carcinoma of the left vocal cord.

Echocardiogram and routine urine exam were normal.

General management: The patient was asked to take a pure vegetarian diet rich in fruits and vegetables. He was asked to avoid processed food and refined flour (maida). He was also asked to avoid coffee and tea.

Homeopathic management: The treatment was started with a dose of Carcinosin 1M a single oral dry dose.

During his second follow up, after careful repertorization, Arsenicum album 0/1 in 120 ml of water was prescribed. He was asked to take a sip of the medicine after every bout of cough. Before taking it, he was asked to give 10 succusions.

The patient underwent radiotherapy and this was asked to be discontinued, because he felt weak and tired after these treatments. See plate two.

Follow-up on March 21, 2010: The patient reported feeling better, cough had reduced, voice production and speech had improved. Arsenicum album 0/2 in 120 ml as aqueous solution was prescribed in the same manner as described above.

Follow-up on April 21, 2010: The patient reported no cough and his speech was clear now. The same medication was repeated.

Follow-up on May 10, 2010: The patient reported no cough and his speech was clear now. The same medication was repeated in 0/3 potency.

Later follow ups regularly that year showed reduced bitter taste in the mouth. The medication was repeated in 0/4 and 0/5 from December 11, 2010 and March 26, 2011 respectively. His complaints reduced and he became generally better gradually. During the June 17, 2011 follow-up, the patient was asked to undergo MRI of neck. The report showed no evidence of vocal cord growth on the left, no evidence of cervical lymphadenopathy. Supraglottic and infraglottic airways were normal. (See test reports below)

Regular follow-ups were continued with Arsenicum album 0/6 taken SOS. From July 23, 2011 placebo was continued as he had no other complaints. The patient stopped his diabetic and hypertensive allopathic medications as his blood sugar and BP levels were normal!

A case of prostate cancer with bilateral grade 1 medical renal disease.

Abstract

Prostate cancer is the leading cause of cancer in men. Only if the tumour is identified in the early stages, i.e. pre metastatic is cure more likely. This patient was treated successfully with potentized phosphorus.

PRESENT COMPLAINTS:

A 37-year-old man was acutely ill for several days with urinary problems and severe abdominal pain and a sensation of fullness with pressure in the lower abdomen. Pricking pain in the base of penis, burning micturition, severe sudden dullness with occasional vertigo <after coition. Feels better after a good sleep.

Difficulty urinating, painful frequent urination <at night and burning sensation+++<during urination, >cold bathing++. Painful ejaculation after intake of Viagra, no orgasm. Severe prostration and dullness after coition. Frequent pain in lower back and hips.

Past treatment history:

He suffered from fever for a long period; he had taken allopathic drugs without consulting the doctor. Due to the severity of the fever, he had undergone treatment with an allopathic doctor and typhoid fever was confirmed after his routine private medical laboratory-screening test. He was under treatment for 15 days with allopathic medicine. After a month of routine normal life he again struggled with stomach pain, vomiting and urinary problem. This patient was treated with allopathic medicine but in vain.

To overcome this problem he came to homeopathy consultation and treatment.

Family history:

His Father suffers from insomnia and is hypertensive. Mother is healthy.

Personal history:

Mixed diet, sexual desire+++ (erotomania) speedy emissions but want of power, non-alcoholic, ex-smoker now quit. Tendency to catch cold easily but he prefers cold.

Mental generals:

Begging me to help him, restless, hopeless, profound fatigue.

Physical generals:

Appetite: good eater, after his acute illness he prefers fruit juices and cool drinks

Thirst: +++ he prefers cold water. However, he is adjustable with availability.

Sweat: + in general sweats well after good work.

Stool: occasional constipation+, stools hard to evacuate, rarely leads to fissures and heals itself after cold spinal bath.

Urine: frequent desire for urination at night, it is painful and burning, scanty after long strain.

Sleep: disturbed by frequency of urination. Feels better after good sleep.

Dreams: lascivious

Thermal: hot

Physical examination:

Tall, fair complexion, handsome, not anemic, severe exhaustion++

Weight-59kg

Height-172cms

CVS-NAD

R.S- Localized polyphonic wheezing heard on left lower lobe

P.R. – per rectal examination done after enema with natural tap water, it shows enlargement of prostate gland.

Lab investigations:

Based on his medical diagnostic report of Ultra sonogram and his oral statement of clinical history and PR EXAMINATION, we concluded that he is suffering from prostate enlargement or may be due to Ca prostate.

Then this patient advised to go for, IMMUNOHISTOCHEMISTRY- Prostate Specific Antigen (PSA) cancer marker test to confirm prostate cancer. Moreover, periodic medical evaluation carried out with Ultrasonic scan and PSA. (Reports attached)

Results of Ultrasonic scan and PSA

Initially Ultra sonogram of abdomen and pelvis impression results show mild hepatomegaly, normal size kidneys showing bilateral grade I medical renal disease, mild pelvicalyceal system ureteric dilatation noted on both sides , no evidence of calculus was noticed and moderate prostatomegaly (prostate enlarged in size measuring 4.8 x 4 x 4 cm corresponding to a volume of 42.2cc ).In biochemical analysis PSA level was raised to75.6 ng/ml.

Over a 3 month period of homeopathic treatment , Ultra sonogram result shows that right intra renal calculus, liver, gall bladder, pancreas, spleen, left kidney , bladder, prostate (prostate size measuring 3.1x 3.7×3.7 cm corresponding to a volume of 22.7 cc) were showing normal sonographic pattern and in blood PSA level decreased from 75.6 ng/ml to 2.0 ng/ml . At the outset, within 15 days, the PSA level was reduced drastically from 75.6 ng/ml to 21.86 ng/ml and after reaching 14 ng/ml it was reduced gradually (Fig 1 and 2, Table 1) (Test report -Annexure I).

Diagnosis:

Ca prostate. With bilateral grade I medical renal disease, and hepatomegaly.

DIET & REGIMEN ADVISED:

Advised to take diet like low cholesterol foods, boiled foods with less salt & sweet, no addition of tamarind, should be strict vegetarian, recommended to take sprouts, all fruits except banana and dates, advised to avoid tea & coffee .

Life style modification:

In addition to that he was advised not to have any sexual activities during treatment period.

• Ferrum picricum 30c (one dose) administered with 120ml aqueous solution 2ml for every 30 minutes each time after 10 strong succussions.

Conclusion

Generally, I used to hesitate and avoid prescribing a rare remedy in my practice, because rare remedies are not fully proved. However, in this case, Ferrum picrium 30 c was given and it did not show effective results. I selected this rare remedy as I recalled this keynote symptom from material medica PROSTATIC ENLARGEMENT WITH PROFOUND PROSTRATION, because this patient had expressed profound fatigue and prostration with almost every complaint. However, phosphorus helped him fully. Because his totality of symptoms, miasmatic and constitutional portrait matched very well with phosphorus.

Finally, I closed this case with CARCINOSINUM 1000 to ELIMINATE cancerous cachexia and to avoid further recurrences.

I want to convey the message through this article that

Common remedies are always common. If we select a rare remedy, we will be rarely correct.

Once again, this case demonstrates that homeopathy is not an alternate medicine but an ultimate medicine.
